Annual convocation of CEAD at Mehran University


Jamshoro (Press Release): The Convocation of Centre of Excellence in Art and Design (CEAD), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro was held at Main Auditorium MUET in which 100 students were given degree certificates. This Convocation was the 4th session of 22nd Convocation MUET. A student from Communication Department Batool Bohra was given 2 gold medals of best graduate and Centre top and a silver medal for securing first position in the department. Sandleen Maqsood Baig was given gold medal for best graduate and a silver medal for securing first position in the department. Manisha Dawani from Textile Design and Shumaila Parveen from Architecture and Planning were also given silver medals for securing first position in respective departments. Shobhna and Khushboo Jarwar from Fine Art, Iman Jamil and Shafia Anam Surahio from Textile Design, Samreen Shah Lakyari and Rawal Asghar Qureshi from Architecture and Planning and Tooba Qureshi and Areeba Aziz Khowaja from Communication Design were awarded merit certificates for securing second and third position in respective departments. Provincial Minister for Education and Literacy Department Syed Sardar Ali Shah the chief guest of the Ceremony awarded medals, certificates and degrees amongst students. 

Addressing the ceremony Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that I congratulate all the graduates for entering in new era of life and I think an artist can play major role for bringing the peace and prosperity in the society. He said that if someone asks me about my qualification I reply I am Engineer by degree, poet by passion and politician by profession. Syed Sardar Shah said that We belong to the thousand years old civilization of Indus and it is one of the three oldest of the world and only single heritage which did not contained any single war weapon and we feel proud to tell world about our past. Minister for education said that being an education minister I admit that our institutions have lost their objectives because of less sense of ownership; we have never bothered to look back to our roots from where we belong. He said that career counseling has been major issue of our society and I am one of those affected people who couldn’t get proper counseling and got enrolled in Engineering and finally became a politician. Syed Sardar Shah said that it is my wish that there should be an art university in the Jamshoro that may have departments of performing and visual art and I will seriously take efforts for such idea. Syed Sardar Shah assured to raise the budget allocated for higher education institutes. 

Addressing the ceremony Vice-chancellor MUET Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili said that CEAD has played vital role in spreading the message of love, peace and prosperity through art in the region and in recent past it has organized two international biennale exhibitions at Jamshoro with participation of 60 countries that helped to soften the image of country at global level. He said that CEAD in collaboration with PERN Network of Higher Education Commission is conducting experiments on broadband multi way connectivity with the education and research networks of Asia using performing art as a medium that includes South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Dr. Uqaili further said that despite huge success by Centre in a short span of time it’s grant allocation is less than a quarter of it’s counterpart institutions that’s why the Centre needs serious financial consideration from Government of Sindh under 18th Amendment powers. Vice-chancellor said that Sindh is the land of Sufis which spreads the message of tolerance and patience and now its responsibility of graduates that how you promote your culture and traditions through language of colours. Member of Provincial Assembly Laal Chand Ukrani, President Pakistan Bar Council Advocate Shabeer Shar, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Khan Muhammad Brohi, Director CEAD Prof. Dr. Bhai Khan Shar, others Deans of faculties, Senate, Syndicate and Academic Council members and  students along with their parents attended the Convocation Ceremony.
